In Understand Quranic Arabic levels 1, 2, and 3, we covered the fundamentals of Quranic Arabic. In Understanding Quranic Arabic level 4, we took it a step further and introduced you to verb families and new vocabulary.
Level 5 is here to continue your journey! The focus will be on completing the rest of the verb families in the Qur'an, and learning highly frequent vocabulary.
In level 5, we will also continue studying the Arabic science of 'Sarf'.
'Sarf' studies the patterns of Arabic words and their roots. The essential idea is that you can take one root (say علم, knowledge) and turn it into many words (عالم scholar, معلوم known quantity, تعليم teaching تعلم learning, etc).
This is a LIVE course, running for eight weeks. The first session will be free, and give students a chance to ask questions and decide whether the course is for them.
After that, each week we will have one 2-hr lecture on the course material.
Time: Tuesdays 4pm-6pm PST (USA Time)
In level 5, we will be covering verb families 5 to 10 as well as the Arabic science of 'Sarf', which deals with the patterns and root letters of Arabic words.
You'll be learning how these roots occur in the Arabic language, and how to identify their patterns in order to increase your vocabulary and comprehend Quranic Arabic at a deeper level. We'll also be learning how to use modern methods of researching these roots in order to further our understanding. We will be applying this knowledge directly to the Qur'an, in order to see results when we read the Qur'an and hear it in our prayers.
Level 5 will cover verb families 5, 6, 7, 8, & 10, as well as a lot of Qur'an translation, with a focus also on practice.
The homework will be to review the family tables and vocabulary words of the week in order to cement them in your memory. Each person has their own level of memory and familiarity, so some may not require any review and some may require more time to review.
What's after level 5?
Level 6! In level 6, we will fill in the remaining concepts, before moving to Reading Classical Arabic Texts by the end of the year.
Completion of UQA level 4.
For those coming from outside of UQA: This means you recognize the first four Verb families, and the basic differences between the past, present, and commanding verbs. You also understand how fi'l and ism sentences are put together. You also understand the parts of a sentence (e.g. doer, adjectives, possession, etc).
